Executive Sessions Minutes

At the end of the City Council meeting, last night, I had a brief chat with City Clerk Mike Geary about the process to release minutes from executive session. I was thinking of this:

I asked Mike how these minutes, along with any Executive Session minutes, would become available to the public? From our quick conversation, I took away that minutes from executive sessions remain in 'limbo,' until the Council calls an executive session to review and approve the release of executive session minutes.

I don't mean to be snarky here. It makes sense, to some degree. We see, every meeting, the minutes from all the public sessions are released in the Council 'packet.' Every meeting, the minutes of the previous meeting are voted on for approval. By and large, this is a 'rubber stamp' process. BOOM! Move on in the Agenda.

So, it does make sense, that IF 'draft minutes' for executive session are to be reviewed BEFORE release to the public, then this would happen in executive session.

I can't recall ever seeing such an item on the agenda. Has anyone? Speak now, please.

I suggest, while the Rules Subcommittee toils over heady matters, such as portrait characteristics and Rule 22, they work out a more streamlined process for extricating the public's business from the hush hush limbo of the City Clerk's out box.
