In today's Column (Link), we find out more details around John Leahy's selections.
He previously said he selected people with municipal management experience. But The Column has discovered that Leahy voted for at least two candidates who have no such background.
Let's stop right there. The Sun prefers that you get all frothy with the revelation that Leahy is a giant clusterf&ck. First, we know that The Sun is trying to undermine the Ramirez candidacy, so as to promote Murphy. Second, we all know John Leahy. It's what the voters chose.
So, let's turn to a more interesting question. Why can't City Hall keep its pie hole shut?
There was only one person with the details surrounding the Councilors' individual choices for city manager finalists. That is Mike Geary. At the time, he was the City Clerk and, as such, gathered the councilors submissions and tallied the results.
This makes Mike Geary, Square 1.
How did Geary transmit the results to the Council? Did a spreadsheet go to the whole Council or just the mayor? This question is critical because either, Mike Geary is a mole for the paper, or one of the councilors is the source of the leak.
I don't think for a second that Geary is the mole. Geary is too smart to risk pissing off a chunk of the council in these troubling times. Further, Geary wouldn't trust the cub reporter, as far as he could throw him. Few do.
The list of 'paperboys' is pretty small.
But, to be fair to mayor Elliott, we learned that C.Kennedy is quick to talk shop with The Sun, when he accidentally (on purpose?) provided the names of the finalists the same day Geary released the list.
Further, observers have noted that C.Belanger is getting cozy with The Sun. So, there isn't a lock on who is spilling the beans.
But, let's back track. We are at Square 1. How did the details leave Geary and to who did they go?
Funny how the Blog of Record is undermining all the candidates, except two. Keyes and Murphy. Although, that is not strictly true. They did an early dump on Murphy, almost two months ago (Link).
The Sun is in the tank, and they have, at least one, co-conspirator in City Hall.
As Warren Shaw says, "Planet Lowell."
