If The Kingmaker Punts

On Monday, the order of the vote should be Elliott, Kennedy, Leahy, Martin, Mercier, Milinazzo, Rourke, Samaras, & Belanger.

This sequence declares Kennedy the Kingmaker!

The gavel hasn't fallen. Or, has it?

Above, I've bolded the names of Kennedy & Martin. Why? Because I think the outcome will be completely dependent on how the votes, like dominoes, tumble. There is speculation that Kevin Murphy will get a majority vote of support, if not unanimous? And I think that is a very possible outcome.

But, NOT because Kevin Murphy is widely popular among Councilors. Or, even within Lowell's political bubble, for that matter. I'd venture to say, based on anecdote, he is not.

The vote tally will be completely dependent, at least in the first round, on what Kennedy does, followed by Martin. If Kennedy "punts," meaning he votes for any of the non-Lowellian finalists, the vote will tumble down to Martin. If Martin "punts," have some Tums handy.

If Kennedy goes for Murphy, it's over! The dominoes will fall in a blend of 'cover your ass' self preservation and public projection of faux positivity. I doubt George Ramirez will take it hard, if his colleagues let him fall in an unflattering way. I think Ramirez would be willing, at least publicly, to take one for the team.

There is a mean streak that runs through Lowell. I can't tell you how many times I've been told that my 'comeuppence" is coming. That those I infuriate hold grudges and bide their time.

It would suck, if 'political extortion (Link)' ruled the outcome of Monday nights vote.

You mean all the bullshit they've already perpetrated on you (and me) wasn't them attempting to shut us up and give us our comeuppance? Please. They think they're so mafioso, but in reality, they're kinda lame.

Lame or not, there is a perception of hegemony.

In private discussions with, as the Sun likes to call them, "observers," the question of if the outcome Monday is locked in place, the answer is a resounding, Yes!

The running logic is this:

They are afraid of Murphy getting it and them not supporting him, as there will be hell to pay. Or, him not getting it and there'll be hell to pay, plus 21 more months of "Rod Rage" and mayhem issued by other punks committed to civic vandalism.

Murphy will Lord over the Council because he'll always have Nangle, Golden and Campi bashing them, if they so much as squeek.
