Let me state, up front, due to Mayor Murphy's choice to break from the norm, 'traditions,' if you please; I don't think the current City Council is obligated to honor any 'tradition' concerning the placement of the portrait. Which, as I understand it, is abutting the door to Room 50.
That said, I would suggest that the current City Council stick to the program. They really don't want to 'chest flex' over this matter. Why? Because it is the easiest way to deflate Murphy's support. Simply, let the portrait hang there. Where it belongs. And, let the public judge for themselves, whether Murphy made a wise choice.

If the current City Council opts to sanction Mayor Murphy, again (Link), my gut tells me the attempt will backfire. There is no 'chess move' that the collective will of a conflicted Council can make, that will not be fatally flawed and exploited by savvy spin masters. The current Council's penchant for petty politics will be laid bare, again (Link).
Now, for the short sighted and vindictive, a public spanking of the 'child Mayor,' is just what is called for. No doubt, cheers will ring out, all across the city. But, I believe, the echo of those cheers will come back louder and stronger. And, the echo will be a wave that the status quo is not prepared for.
ENOUGH. This portrait stuff is a distraction of what the real issues we have as a city and our elected officials should be focusing on that, Patrick chose to be a rebel and not do the right thing. hang it at Elloitts Hot Dog and Jack you are not doing a service to us by stirring the pot on something this stupid.
